Does your brand answer... or just describe?
Most companies create content to "have something to show". They publish descriptions of their services, updates, even tips... but rarely ask themselves if that content answers something real.
And that's the difference that today defines whether you appear —or not— in engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini.
What does "answering" mean?
Answering is more than informing. It means anticipating a real question from your potential customer and structuring the information so that the answer:
- Is immediate
- Is useful
- Is reliable
- And hopefully, comes from you
What does content that describes look like?
"We are a company with more than 10 years of experience in digital solutions for SMEs..."
This text doesn't answer any specific question. It talks about you. It doesn't respond to anyone.
And what does content that answers look like?
"How can an SME improve its sales using automated marketing?"
And below:
- Clear explanation
- Bullets with steps
- Tool comparison
- A suggested action
This is the type of content that generative engines choose to display.
GOLDEN TIP
Reformulate each old article with this question at the beginning:
"What question is this answering?"
If you can't answer it in 5 seconds, you're probably just describing.
Why does this matter more than ever?
Because new engines don't scan "who has more keywords", but who best answers the user's question.
And since answers are now unique (a single source in many cases), the winner takes all.
Real case: HubSpot and its AEO strategy
HubSpot reformulated dozens of articles with "How to" and "What is..." format, each with:
- A question as title
- A brief initial answer
- A step-by-step section
- And a CTA (call to action)
The result:
- Greater visibility in generative engines
- Decreased bounce rate
- More qualified traffic
- More leads with intention
And you? Are you answering?
Take this quick test:
- Open your blog or services page.
- Read the first 3 paragraphs.
- Ask yourself:
- What problem does this solve?
- What doubt does it answer?
- Would someone understand it without knowing anything about the topic?
If the answer is "I don't know"... you're describing.
What you can do now
- Choose your 5 best pages or articles
- Reformulate their titles as questions
- Answer the doubt in the first paragraph
- Structure with bullets, steps or examples
- Add a CTA that follows the logical flow
At SearchBrand.ai we help you detect which of your contents are well structured to answer... and which need AEO optimization.
Because today, more than ever, it's not enough to tell what you do. You have to answer what the customer wants to know.
